Did Israel use vacuum bombs in Gaza? A report has claimed that Israel detonated these thermobaric weapons during its conflict with Gaza, especially targeting densely populated areas. The report, titled The Rest of the Story, says that these vacuum bombs disperse a fuel-like cloud into the air before igniting it, thus producing a massive fireball, with a vacuum effect that sucks in the surrounding air. The resulting explosion is said to generate temperatures of up to 3500 degrees Celsius.

The report lists three types of weapons that were allegedly used:

- The Mk-84 'Hammer' - a 900 kg bomb capable of producing temperatures up to 3,500 degrees,

- The BLU-109 'Bunker Buster', designed to penetrate hardened structures before exploding, and

- The GBU-39, described as a precision glide bomb, fragments of which were reportedly found after the Al-Tabin school attack.

These weapons are also referred to as aerosol bombs.

As per the report, these bombs contain elements such as aluminium and magnesium, which can burn human body within seconds. The impact of these thermal munitions is so intense that while buildings may not appear destroyed from the outside but everything inside is reduced to ashes.

The report stated that in many cases, the bodies of those killed could not be recovered.

Gaza's Civil Defense Team said that there are nearly 2,842 Palestinians who had "no part left to bury", while more than 3500 remain missing.

Despite a formal ceasefire - that has entered its second phase - violence has continued in the region. Since October 10, 2025, more than 500 Palestinians have reportedly been killed. The overall death toll in the war is said to have crossed 72000.
