An undercover investigation has uncovered a network of legal advisers and middlemen charging illegal migrants thousands of pounds to fabricate claims of being gay in order to secure asylum in the UK.
TheBBC investigationfound migrants whose visas were due to expire were being coached to invent stories, gather fake evidence and pose as members of the LGBT community to avoid deportation.
Advisers offered “packages” including staged photographs, fabricated letters and even fake medical reports to strengthen claims.
“Listen to me. There is nobody who is real. There is only one way out in order to live here now and that is the very method everyone is adopting,” one adviser told an undercover reporter.
In another case, a legal adviser offered to build a claim for up to £7,000 and said the chances of rejection were “very low.”
Migrants were also instructed to attend LGBT events and clubs to gather evidence.
Others were told to obtain letters falsely claiming they had engaged in same-sex relationships.
“I will fully prepare you for the interview by compiling a comprehensive package for you,” one adviser said. “You just have to tell them that ‘I am a gay and it is my reality.’”
