AGUILAR: “Well, first of all, secretaries are on the front line of protecting voters all across this country from these illegal acts, from these brain dead policies that are coming to us from a federal government and being expected to be implemented on the local level. What concerns me is the fact that it’s creating chaos within the election system as elections officials, as people on the front line, protecting our democracy and protecting access to the ballot box, which determines a lot of the issues we’re talking about today, talking about cost, we’re talking about public education. We’re talking about small businesses struggling to cover the costs that are they are seeing. As recently at Costco, I looked at the cost of gas. I looked around me. There were uber drivers. There were landscapers, all dependent on the price of gas. And when you start to take away the opportunity for people to put food on their table, they start to recognize the importance of the ballot box and why they need to elect officials like secretary of state who are going to fight for them every single day."
