A team from the Nashik Crime Branch on Friday reached Mumbra in Thane district in search of a26-year-old woman stafferaccused in the ongoing sexual harassment and religious harassment case at the Nashik office of Tata Consultancy Services. The woman, originally from Nashik, had recently moved to Mumbai after her husband secured a job in Mumbra. Investigators said she has been untraceable for the past few days, even as efforts to locate her intensify.
The case, linked to aTata Consultancy Services-run BPO, has drawn national attention amid multiple FIRs and arrests.
Police teams also visited the relative’s residence, but found it locked, and their phone numbers were switched off. Officials said multiple teams have now been dispatched to other locations to trace the accused woman. She had been living in a rented apartment in Amrut Nagar since February and was commuting to offices in Malad and Hiranandani after her transfer.
Her lawyer Baba Sayyad said, "We are finalising theanticipatory bail pleaand support documents in consultation with our client's father, who is in Nashik for this purpose." He added, "Going by the FIR, the case against our client is pertaining to hurting religious sentiments. It is the Constitutional right of our client to seek anticipatory bail. Our client is in her early stage of pregnancy and hence that also would be another reason that she was seeking anticipatory bail. We will be processing the plea in a couple of days with the Nashik sessions court."
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has constituted a four-member fact-finding committee to probe the allegations. The panel will visit Nashik to conduct an on-the-spot inquiry, interact with victims and officials, and assess the response of authorities.
