Delhi’s changingweather conditionsonce again disrupted air travel on Friday (April 18)evening, affecting flight operations at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI). Poor visibility and unstable weather patterns led to delays in multiple departures and arrivals, prompting major airlines, including IndiGo and Air India, to issue travel advisories for passengers.
The situation has caused inconvenience for hundreds of travellers, with several flights rescheduled or held back temporarily. Airport operations continued, but with slower movement as safety protocols were prioritised due to low visibility conditions over the capital.
IndiGo informed passengers through social media platform X that flight schedules were impacted due to adverse weather conditions. The airline advised travellers to check their flight status before leaving for the airport. It also assured that its teams are closely monitoring the situation to minimise inconvenience.
Air India also issued a similar advisory, asking passengers to stay updated through its official website and mobile app. The airline said its ground staff is actively tracking the situation and working to ensure safe and smooth operations once conditions improve.
Both airlines stressed that safety remains the top priority amid unpredictable weather conditions affecting the Delhi region.
Passengers have been advised to plan their journey with extra time in hand as traffic conditions in several parts of the city have also slowed down due to intermittent rain and reduced visibility.
Authorities and airlines have requested travellers to remain alert and flexible with their travel plans. Commuters heading to the airport are being encouraged to regularly check flight updates and avoid last-minute rush.
Officials have also warned that weather-related disruptions may continue in short intervals, depending on atmospheric conditions over the next few hours. While no major cancellations have been announced so far, delays are expected to continue until visibility improves.
Travellers have been advised to cooperate with airport staff and airline teams as operations gradually stabilise. The focus, according to airlines, remains on ensuring passenger safety while maintaining essential flight schedules during unpredictable weather conditions in the capital.
