Professor Mohammad Marandiof the University of Tehran, who has close ties to theIranian government, posted on X Friday that he believes there is a high probability that the U.S. and Israel will renew the war by blaming Iran for not honoring the agreement that Tehran never agreed to in the first place.
Heposted on X: “Personally, I believe Trump is probably saying all this nonsense about agreements with Iran so that he can later claim, ‘Iran didn’t keep its promises’ – promises Iran never made. The chances of renewed murderous aggression from Trump and Netanyahu are high.”
The Iranian government on Friday announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz after the ceasefire was announced between Israel and Lebanon, but details of the agreement and the status of the U.S. blockade remained murky.
Abbas Araghchi, the top Iranian diplomat, said in a statement that the strait is completely open for commercial vessel use if the ceasefire in Lebanon holds. Press TV, the Iranian outlet, reported that these vessels are required to coordinate with the Iranian Navy and follow routes that have been designated for passage,Press TV reported.
Trump embraced the statement as a significant win for the U.S. and tried to strike an optimistic tone that such a deal could pave the way for a long-term solution in the war with Iran.
“Iran has agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again. It will no longer be used as a weapon against the World!” he posted on Truth Social on Friday.
Trump used the announcement to also take a shot at allies in NATO who he has accused of abandoning the U.S. in a time of need. He posted on Truth that he received “a call from NATO asking if we would need some help.”
“I TOLD THEM TO STAY AWAY, UNLESS THEY JUST WANT TO LOAD UP THEIR SHIPS WITH OIL. They were useless when needed, a Paper Tiger!” he posted.
Trump has been erratic in his comments about the Iran War, so many analysts take his comments at face value. He said the U.S. will be allowed to collect all of Iran’s “Nuclear ‘Dust,’ created by our great B2 Bombers,” a likely reference to the enriched uranium still inside the country.
Trump contradicted Iran’s statement about the strait and said the deal had nothing to do with Lebanon. Trump assured his short followers that the U.S. would work to resolve the war between Israel and Hezbollah “in an appropriate manner.”
