Washington DC:United States President Donald Trump on Friday expressed optimism in finalising deal withIransoon. Trump told Axios that he expects the Iran deal "in a day or two." The US President's remarks came on the day when Iran announced opening the Strait of Hormuz for all vessels. However, in its earlier Truth Social post, Trump said that the US naval blockade will remain in "full force" until the deal with Iran is "100 per cent" complete.

"The Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ready for business and full passage, but the naval blockade will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran, only, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete," the US President stated. He further added that most of the points put forward by the US have already been negotiated.

The US enforced a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz with the deployment of at least 15 warships. The US Central Command, which supervises operation, confirmed on Monday night that the blockade started at 1400 GMT. Notably, the US naval blockade is applicable to all the ships leaving and entering Iranian ports, including those on the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Meanwhile, there is no restrictions on ships originating from non-Iranian ports.

The development came days ahead of possible US and Iran peace talks in Pakistan's capital city, Islamabad. Earlier in the day, Iran announced that commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will remain “completely open” for the duration of the ongoing ceasefire, in a move aimed at reassuring global trade and energy markets after weeks of disruption. Iran's Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araghchi issued a statement in this regard.

"In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Rep. of Iran", Araghchi wrote on X.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, handling roughly a fifth of global oil and energy supplies. It was blocked by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Tehran on February 28. The disruption in the Strait of Hormuz triggered an energy crisis in the region.
