Karnataka is set for disruptions on Thursday (February 12) as trade unions across the country are preparing a nationwide Bharat Bandh. The demand of the bandh is for the rollback of theCentre’s four new labour codes. With support from farmer groups and Left parties, the strike can have a huge impact on banking, transport and several routine services across the state. From Bengaluru to Mysuru and Hubballi to Mangaluru, residents have been advised to plan ahead as delays, closures and protests may affect daily schedules.

The strike as per report by Economic Times, aims at protesting the four labour codes introduced by the central government, which replaced 29 existing labour laws to simplify compliance for employers.

Trade unions as per reports by ET argue that the reforms favour companies over workers. According to union leaders, the new laws weaken workers’ rights, reduce legal protections, make hiring and firing easier, and exclude many informal workers from legal coverage. They claim the changes could adversely affect job security, wages and social benefits.

Major unions supporting the bandh include CITU, AITUC, INTUC, HMS, AICCTU, LPF and UTUC. Farmer groups such as the United Kisan Morcha have also extended backing. Rallies, demonstrations and road blockades are expected in several districts.

Schools, colleges, banks, post offices, government offices and public sector units may face closures or disruptions. KSRTC buses and some local transport services could be affected. Shops, markets, fuel pumps and industrial units in certain areas may also remain shut.

Traffic movement is likely to slow down, especially in Bengaluru and other major cities due to protests.

Essential services including hospitals, ambulances, pharmacies, water and electricity supply, fire services, airports and trains are expected to function normally, though minor delays are possible. Some private offices and online delivery services may operate with reduced staff.

Authorities have assured that emergency services will not be disrupted. Residents are advised to check schedules in advance and avoid non essential travel where possible.
