Hannity seemed to think he knew more about Jesus Christ than Pope Leo XIV

TV host Sean Hannity appeared to try to lecture Pope Leo XIV on the teachings of Jesus Christ on Thursday night, arguing that there were hundreds of references to war in the Bible, including examples of God "authorizing" it.

"Pope Leo XIV is seemingly more interestedin spreading left-wing politics than the actual teachings of Jesus Christ," remarked Hannity on his Fox News show. While quoting Pope Leo's comment that "God does not bless any conflict and certainly doesn't side with those who drop bombs", Hannity said, "Well, first, that is simply not biblically accurate. The Bible contains over 400 references to war, frequently depicting God as authorizing, commanding, intervening in battles, like one that we know — the battle between David and Goliath."

He continued,"Why is the Pope twisting religion to only attack Trump? Why did he recently meet with top Obama advisor David Axelrod and J.B. Pritzker? Is it because he's a run of the mill Trump hating Democrat that lacks moral clarity?"

The Fox News host later added, "Where are the pointed words for Iran, this evil regime?"

Hannity's outburst comes after a very public feud erupted between Pope Leo XIV and President Trump over the war in Iran, as the Pope criticized the U.S. and Israel's attacks on the country. This, in turn, provoked a strong reaction from Trump, who earlier this week remarked that "Leo should get his act together as Pope".

"'The actual teachings of Jesus Christ,' which Hannity thinks he knows better than…The Pope?" wrote author Assal Rad on X, in response to the Fox News host's comments.

"The 'actual teachings of Jesus Christ.' Right, focus on all the schools Jesus blew up, or the mass deportations Jesus orchestrated. Or all the times Jesus was in the Epstein Files," replied another person.

Despite immense pushback from Republicans over his opinion that war is bad, Pope Leo doubled down on his criticisms on Thursday during a visit to Cameroon. He aimed at leaders who spend billions on wars, adding that the world was "being ravaged by a handful of tyrants".
