Washington DC:AfterIranannounced reopening the Strait of Hormuz for passage of all vehicles, United States President Donald Trump said that the naval blockade imposed by US forces in the key waterway will remain in "full force" and "effect." Trump further stated that the blockade will remain in place until the deal with Iran is "100 per cent complete."

"The Strait of Hormuz is completely open and ready for business and full passage, but the naval blockade will remain in full force and effect as it pertains to Iran, only, until such time as our transaction with Iran is 100% complete," the US President said in his Truth Social post. He further added that most of the points put forward by the US have already been negotiated.

Meanwhile, in his first post after Iran's announcement, Trump referred to the Strait of Hormuz as "Strait of Hormuz."

"Iran has just announced that the Strait of Iran is fully open and ready for full passage. "Thank you!" The US President said in his Truth Social post.

The US enforced a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz with the deployment of at least 15 warships. The US also deployed amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli (LHA 7). This amphibious ship is operating F-35B Lightning II stealth fighters and MV-22 Ospreys in the Arabian Sea. The US Central Command, which supervises operation, confirmed on Monday night that the blockade started at 1400 GMT.

Earlier in the day, Iran announced that commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz will remain “completely open” for the duration of the ongoing ceasefire, in a move aimed at reassuring global trade and energy markets after weeks of disruption. Iran's Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araghchi issued a statement in this regard.

"In line with the ceasefire in Lebanon, the passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire, on the coordinated route as already announced by Ports and Maritime Organisation of the Islamic Rep. of Iran", Araghchi wrote on X.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical shipping routes, handling roughly a fifth of global oil and energy supplies. Any disruption in the narrow waterway has immediate global economic consequences, affecting oil prices, shipping routes, and supply chains. Notably, 20 percent of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas pass through this key waterway.

The strait was blockaded by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) after the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Tehran on February 28. The disruption in the Strait of Hormuz triggered an energy crisis in the region.
