The high school students will be coming from Plainview Old Bethpage, Mount Sinai, Baldwin, Jericho, Mineola, MacArthur (Levittown), Ward Melville (Three Village), Port Jefferson, Syosset, Longwood, Rocky Point, Brentwood, Riverhead, Newfield, and Patchogue-Medford school districts.
The event is hosted by the New York State Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology and the Office for Research and Innovation Workforce Development. Students will compete in teams of four to develop entrepreneurial ventures that address digital reliability challenges.
Each team will receive a state-of-the-art NVIDIA Jetson Developer Kit. Using Python, students will develop advanced machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions on this hardware platform.
This unique opportunity enables students to develop real-world applications on an edge computing device, extending their learning beyond the classroom and integrating both hardware and software solutions.
The hackathon will also provide students with the opportunity to present these ventures to a panel of industry and academic judges, advancing their skills by interacting with novel AI models and implementing solutions that could be deployed in real-world scenarios.
Throughout the event, students will receive mentoring from Stony Brook University undergraduate and graduate students in computer science. Prizes, including Amazon gift cards and Stony Brook merchandise, will be awarded, and giveaways will be provided to all participants.
