Chinese analysts say Tehran has long shown resilience in the face of sanctions and other US tactics

With a two-week ceasefire to expire on April 22, US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth has renewed his threat against Iran, saying that the US will attack Iran’s civilian infrastructure if diplomatic efforts fail.

“Our forces are maximally postured to restart combat operations should this new Iranian regime choose poorly and not agree to a deal,” Hegseth said at the Pentagon on Thursday.

“We are locked and loaded on your critical dual-use infrastructure, on your remaining power generation and on your energy industry.”

At the same time, the US would maintain its naval blockade of maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports, he said.
