**LOS ANGELES** — A violent scene unfolded on a major Los Angeles artery Friday as authorities discovered a man suffering from critical gunshot wounds inside a vehicle along the I-105 freeway.
The incident occurred near the transition to South Vermont Avenue, triggering a significant emergency response that snarled traffic during the afternoon commute.
According to initial reports obtained via the Citizen app, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers and Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were dispatched to the westbound lanes of the I-105 shortly after 1:00 p.m. following reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, first responders located a vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway. Inside, they found an adult male victim who had sustained at least one gunshot wound. Paramedics immediately initiated life-saving measures at the scene before rushing the victim to a local trauma center. As of the latest update, the man remains in critical condition.
Investigators have not yet released a description of a suspect or a motive for the shooting. It remains unclear whether the gunman was inside the vehicle with the victim or if the shots were fired from another vehicle passing by on the freeway.
The westbound I-105 was partially shut down for several hours while forensic teams processed the vehicle and searched for ballistic evidence. The closure resulted in heavy congestion extending several miles back toward the I-110 interchange.
The investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who possesses dashcam footage from the I-105 near South Vermont between 12:45 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. to contact the CHP.
This incident marks another troubling violent event on Los Angeles freeways, which have seen a persistent pattern of brazen criminal activity over the past year. Authorities have yet to confirm if the shooting was a targeted attack or an act of road rage.
