Iranian outlets deny negotiations are underway and assert Washington paused military action following warnings from Tehran.

Iranian state-linked media moved quickly to counter President Donald Trump’s statement that the United States and Iran had engaged in “productive” talks, instead asserting that no negotiations are taking place and portraying recent U.S. actions as a retreat.

Shortly after Trump’s public comments, Iranian state television broadcast a graphic stating, “U.S. president backs down following Iran’s firm warning,” framing the pause in potential U.S. military action as a response to pressure from Tehran.

Reports from Tasnim News Agency cited an unnamed Iranian official who said conditions in the Strait of Hormuz would not return to pre-conflict norms, warning that instability in global energy markets is expected to continue. The outlet also reported that U.S. plans to target Iranian infrastructure were halted due to financial market concerns, adding that Iran intends to maintain its current defensive posture until what it described as full deterrence is achieved.

Separately, Fars News Agency disputed Trump’s assertion that discussions between the two countries are ongoing, reporting that no direct or indirect communications with Washington are taking place.

The outlet further stated that any decision by the United States to delay potential strikes on Iranian power facilities followed warnings from Iran that it would respond by targeting energy infrastructure across West Asia.
