Washington DC:As the Middle East conflict entered its fourth week, people have started questioning US President Donald Trump's decision to start a military operation againstIran. However, Trump finally found a scapegoat to put all the blame on. On Monday, during a roundtable in the US state of Tennessee, Trump said that it was his Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth who first pushed for the military action.
“Pete, I think you were the first one to speak up, and you said, ‘Let’s do it because you can’t let them have a nuclear weapon,’" Trump said as Hegseth was sitting beside him. Notably, Hegseth is the one who regularly briefs the media on the war and defended the IS military campaign.
“I called Pete. I called General Kane. I called a lot of our great people," the US President stated. He further added, "We got a problem in the Middle East Or we can take a stop and make a little journey into the Middle East and eliminate a big problem.
Trump even pointed out that US Vice President JD Vance was not much in support of the military action. However, Vance did not publicly voice his opposition.

Notably, Trump had given different explanations to start the war. At one point, he suggested that the military action was necessary to prevent Iran from producing nuclear weapons, while at another moment, the US president said that the airstrikes on Tehran were a preemptive action to avoid broader regional conflict.
Meanwhile, the US President revealed that he and his officials were not expecting Iran's retaliatory strikes on the Gulf countries.
Trump Announces Temporary Pause To Strikes On Iran’s Energy Infrastructure:
Earlier on Monday, the US President softened its stance. In a statement, Trump said the US had decided to postpone “any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure” for a period of five days. He added that the move was contingent upon the continued progress of ongoing discussions aimed at achieving a “complete and total resolution” of hostilities.
"I am please to report that the United States of America and the country of Iran have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East." Trump said in a post on his Truth Social.
