The sudden passing of Carlos Ray Norris has left fans around the globe mourning the man the world knew asmartial arts legend Chuck Norris. The iconic actordied on Friday at 86 following a medical emergency in Hawai'i, with his family confirming that he was surrounded by loved ones and at peace.

While tributes poured in from around the world, a Middle East policy expert offered a perspective that captured the internet's enduring fascination with the star, jokingly declaring him the ultimate solution to one of the world's most pressing geopolitical conflicts.

Michael Young, a senior editor at the Carnegie Middle East Center, used X to share his tribute, attaching an obituary to his post. He referenced the long-running internet phenomenon surrounding Norris by writing: 'America's last chance to open the Strait of Hormuz has just died, RIP.'

The joke lands because of the extraordinary mythology fans built around Norris over decades. During his famous role as Cordell Walker in 'Walker, Texas Ranger', he built a reputation for unstoppable on-screen prowess, with his characters said to have killed more than 640 people across the series, inspiring fans to routinely attribute impossible feats to the actor in real life.

Norris had travelled to Hawai'i for specialised training, and friends said he sounded exceptionally energetic in the days before he suffered a sudden medical episode and was hospitalised. Just days prior, he had celebrated his birthday on 10 March bysharing a sparring video on Instagram.

His caption read: 'I don't age. I level up. I'm 86 today! Nothing like some playful action on a sunny day to make you feel young. I'm grateful for another year, good health and the chance to keep doing what I love.'

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was among the first international leaders to respond, describing Norris as a 'close personal friend.' Writing on X, Netanyahu said: 'Sara and I were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chuck Norris, a great friend of Israel and a close personal friend. Chuck brought martial arts and the warmth of his character to millions around the world. May his memory be a blessing.'
