Daryl M. Sulzer of Calverton died March 17, 2026. She was 71 years old.
Born May 5, 1954, she was the firstborn of Robert and Janet Cawley and the oldest of six children. She married Dennis Sulzer Sept. 30, 1972, and became a military wife as he pursued a U.S. Navy career in submarine service, rising to the rank of master chief quartermaster. While he served, she also served as an ombudsman for several of the boats to which he was assigned, working to support the emotional and physical well-being of families during deployments. After her husband’s death in 1995, she worked for many years at the Birchwood Restaurant and later for the Town of Riverhead through its senior center.
She was predeceased by her husband, Dennis Sulzer, and her parents, Robert and Janet Cawley.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer of Calverton, Scott (Nancy) of Riverhead, and Brieanne (Joshua) Helmick of upstate New York; and three grandchildren, Olivia, Delaney and Logan.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 17, 2026, at 10 a.m. at Calverton National Cemetery, officiated by Deacon Doug Moran. DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck is serving the family.
