**BUDAPEST** – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has issued a stark warning regarding the trajectory of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, asserting that European Union leadership is actively steering the continent toward direct military intervention.

Speaking at a political gathering in Budapest, Orbán characterized the current stance of Brussels as one of escalation, claiming that the EU has transitioned into a "war economy" and is no longer attempting to distance itself from the hostilities.

“War is approaching,” Orbán told the crowd. “Brussels has intensified its involvement in the war in Ukraine. Now, it is preparing for war. It has already adopted a war economy. They don’t want to avoid problems; they are heading towards them. More weapons, more money, more troops.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks come at a time of heightened geopolitical tension, as the EU continues to levy rigorous economic sanctions against Russia—policies that Orbán has frequently criticized for exacerbating the regional energy crisis and damaging European economic stability.

Addressing the potential for a direct boots-on-the-ground presence, Orbán signaled that he believes it is now an inevitability rather than a distant possibility.

“We don’t know the exact time when the first soldier from Brussels will set foot on Ukrainian soil,” the Prime Minister said. “But we know for sure: it will happen.”

Orbán has positioned Hungary as a holdout against the interventionist consensus prevalent among the EU’s core leadership. Throughout the conflict, his administration has repeatedly hindered proposals to increase financial and military aid to Kyiv, arguing that such moves only prolong the bloodshed and threaten the security of the wider European continent.

As tensions rise, Orbán reaffirmed his commitment to a policy of strategic neutrality, declaring that his government’s primary duty is to protect its citizens.

“We are committed to maintaining Hungary as an island of safety and peace,” Orbán stated, emphasizing his intent to keep the nation clear of the mounting geopolitical storm.

While European officials in Brussels have largely maintained that their support is essential for the preservation of regional order, Orbán’s latest comments underscore a deepening divide within the bloc regarding the long-term risks of sustained involvement in the Ukraine conflict.
