Sayville boys varsity basketball is playoff bound. They will be participating in the Section XI2026 playoffs this winter. Sporting a valiant 8-6 league record and holding an impressive overall record of 13-7, the Golden Flashes have fought hard the past month.

After two losses in early January to Mount Sinai and Amityville, the Sayville ballers countered those defeats with two-straight league wins on the hardcourt: a 57-42 vanquish over the Rocky Point Eagles on Jan. 7, and a 54-37 blowout over Wyandanch on Jan. 9.

After another loss to Mount Sinai, the Golden Flashes strung together a three-game winning streak in late January: a 50-34 league win at home over the Miller Place Panthers, a 45-37 non-league win over Pat-Med, and a 17-point decimation over their League V adversaries the Rocky Point Eagles at Rocky Point, 64-47.

In the contest against Rocky Point, Ryan Linker nabbed five baskets from downtown with five 3-pointers for 15 points on the day. Linker also had four assists. Braeden Skelly scored 11 with three field goals and five free throws. Wesley Jones scored 10 and snatched 11 rebounds while contributing with eight assists. Jack Mahon had 8 points and seven rebounds.

Brady O’Donoghue had 8 points and seven assists, while Ben Richards had 6 points and five rebounds. After the victory, Sayville lost two in a row, but rebounded to annihilate the Miller Place Panthers, 64-30, and pulverize Hampton Bays, 63-28, winning two important league games last week.

The 34-point margin victory away vs. Miller Place earned Sayville a spot in the 2026 Section XI playoffs. Skelly knocked down 18 points, three 3-point baskets, six assists, and two rebounds. Mahon tallied 17, with seven rebounds and three assists. Colin Darling scored 5 with a 3-pointer, a field goal, and four rebounds.

Jones notched 5 points with six rebounds and six assists and Luke Neugebauer summated 5 points with a 3-point basket, four assists, and three rebounds, while O’Donoghue tallied 5 with five assists and two rebounds. In another vanquish on the road over Hampton Bays, 63-28, Skelly had 18 points, six assists, and two rebounds and Mahon had 17 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Darling, Jones, Neugebauer, and O’Donoghue scored 5 points each. Darling had 4 rebounds, Jones had6 rebounds and 6 assists, Neugebauer had 4 assists and 3 rebounds, and O’Donoghue summated 5 assists and 2 rebounds.
