# Vehicle Engulfed in Flames on Black Canyon Highway
**PHOENIX, AZ** – Emergency crews were dispatched to the 5500 block of North Black Canyon Highway late Friday afternoon following reports of a vehicle fire that sent plumes of thick, black smoke into the Phoenix sky.
The incident, which occurred near 5533 N Black Canyon Hwy, was reported by witnesses on the Citizen app shortly after 4:00 p.m. Local responders arrived on the scene to find a passenger vehicle fully engulfed in flames on the shoulder of the busy transit corridor.
Traffic in the immediate area experienced significant delays as fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze. The intensity of the fire caused the vehicle's frame to smolder and pop, drawing the attention of passing commuters.
