The primary suspect police arrested for shooting at Rihanna's Los Angeles home last Sunday has been charged with attempted murder.
Florida residentIvanna Lisette Ortiz, 35, is facing an attempted murder charge on top of three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper, and ten counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. Ortiz was charged on 10 March in connection with the shooting at Rihanna's Los Angeles home.
Ortiz allegedly went to the pop star's mansion intending to murder her, according to the prosecutor's complaint obtained byPeople. Los Angeles police arrested Ortiz on 9 March, a day after she allegedly fired multiple bullets into the celebrity's residence.
Rihanna and her rapper partner A$AP Rocky were reportedly at home when the shooting happened, at around 1:20pm on 8 March. Witnesses saw some of the bullets hit the gate and the entrance, according to aFox LA report.
Prosecutors said there were other people in Rihanna's home and in the adjacent property at the time. No one was hurt in the incident.
"Opening fire in any populated neighbourhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted," Nathan J. Hochman, Los Angeles County District Attorney, stated per theBBC.
"This careless violence will not be tolerated in our community. Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons," he added. Ortiz's bail is set at £1.4 million (about $1.88 million). She's facing a possible life sentence if convicted.
The LAPD confirmed that Ortiz had been stalking and provoking Rihanna on social media for some time, in the hopes of meeting her. "Are you there? ... say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me where I'm not at.," Ortiz wrote in one of her X posts.
Ortiz also threwwild and baseless accusationsat the pop star, whose real name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Ortiz alleged that the singer has AIDS and is involved in witchcraft. She also claimed that Rihanna wanted to kill her at one point.
Ortiz also targeted other celebrities on social media, slamming Cardi B. and calling Kim Kardashian a 'stupid b***h' in separate posts. She also said she was 'through with Rihanna' last year, more than two months before the shooting incident.
