New Delhi:As the conflict escalated in the Middle East, the Centre on Wednesday (March 11) ensured a 100 per cent domestic supply of LPG. The conflict has led to an energy crisis in the region due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), affecting global supply chains. The government also urged people not to panic or to hoard due to misinformation. Meanwhile, the normal delivery cycle for domestic households is 2.5 days.
“No need for panic on LPG booking; the normal delivery cycle for domestic household remains 2.5 days," said Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Sujata Sharma. She also highlighted that India’s crude oil supplies remain secure.
Meanwhile, the Oil Ministry pointed out that the government’s measures amid the ongoing conflict have led to a 25 per cent rise in LPG production. The ministry also stated that crude oil is now being sourced from non-Strait of Hormuz routes.
On Tuesday, the government rejigged allocation to ensure uninterrupted supply for households and transport sectors. Now LPG production, CNG, and piped cooking gas will take precedence over all other sectors using natural gas. The Oil Ministry, in a gazette notification, had ordered that available gas has to be diverted from non-priority sectors to key users.

Since the start of the conflict, the Indian government has maintained that country is in comfortable position as far as oil and natural gas supplies are concerned.
Meanwhile, Union MinisterHardeep Singh Purion Tuesday told reporters that India’s energy imports were continuing to flow in from different sources and routes. "We have taken steps to ensure that 100% supply of CNG & PNG to domestic consumers is ensured and other industries continue to get 70-80% of their supplies, despite the war situation," he had stated.
The Energy crisis erupted in the region after the IRGC blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway that connects the Persian Gulf to the Arabian Sea. Every day, it carries 21 million barrels of crude oil, about one-fifth of the total global consumption.
