The Canada school shooter who killed nine people - including their own mother - has been named by police as 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar. An updated provided this evening by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said the attack happened at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia on Wednesday afternoon.
Deputy commissioner Dwayne McDonald confirmed Van Rootselaar was a resident of the small community of Tumbler Ridge and said investigators believe the attack was carried out alone. Police said officers were called to reports of an active shooter at around 1.30pm local time and arrived within two minutes, entering the school while gunfire was still ongoing. The suspect was later located inside the building dead from what officers described as a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound. Two firearms - a long gun and a modified handgun - were recovered at the scene.
