A city council meeting in Mississippi went off the rails, descending into pandemonium after a council member threatened to “cut” a female protester. Such was the scene in Jackson at the council meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 3, where tempers flared and a shouting match erupted. It all started over the city’s moratorium on data centers. Councilman Kenneth Stokes introduced a measure to end a 183-day moratorium on any new data centers in the city The news outlet reported that Stokes exploded after Candace Abdul-Tawwab, the executive director of Mississippi for Just World and an outspoken data center critic, addressed the council over concerns about ending the moratorium. At one point, Abdul-Tawwab accused Stokes of being willing to “sell out his mother.” The meeting, which was already fraught over the issue of data centers, descended into chaos after Stokes suddenly exploded.
