According to the IDF, most of the missiles fired on Tuesday were intercepted. However, one missile carrying a large warhead exploded in an open area outside Beit Shemesh, near Jerusalem. No injuries were reported in that incident.

Cluster bomb warheads disperse dozens of submunitions over a wide area, each containing several kilograms of explosives and spreading across a radius of around 10 kilometres. The use of such munitions is banned under the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, although Israel, Iran and the United States are not signatories to the treaty.

The missile launches come after the US and Israel initiated a bombing campaign against Iran. In response, Iran has fired hundreds of missiles and drones across the region, including toward Israeli territory. Iranian strikes in Israel have killed 12 people and injured more than 2,000, according to Israeli health authorities.
