Police announced in Feburary that they had identified a suspect believed to be known to Gus. The suspect is not one of Gus's parents.

The case was escalated to a major crime.

Detective Superintendent Darren Fielke said at the time of the announcement that there were "discrepancies" and "inconsistencies" in the information provided by some of the child's family members.

"As a result of these inconsistencies, and investigations into them, a person who resides at Oak Park Station has withdrawn their support for the police and is no longer co-operating with us," Superintendent Fielke stated.

He said that authorities would be returning to the property. They returned to search the property on Wednesday.
