The transition from a comfortable lifestyle to a prison cell is a reality that few are prepared to face. For disgraced film mogul Harvey Weinstein, the shift has necessitated specialised professional assistance.
In his first major sit-down interview from behind bars at Rikers Island, Weinstein revealed the measures he has taken to endure incarceration. He has enlisted the services of a professional 'prison consultant' to navigate the complexities and dangers of life within the correctional system.
In a sit-down interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the disgraced film producerconfirmedthat he hired a prison consultant before he went to jail. For a client like Weinstein, a prison consultant acts as an intermediary and strategist. The firm assists in managing the logistics of incarceration, ensuring that the client's basic rights are upheld in an environment that is often indifferent to individual needs. When asked about the best advice he received from his prison consultant, Weinstein said 'It wasn't one thing.'
'He just helped me navigate this system,' Weinstein told THR about the role of the prison consultant. 'All the unspoken little rules and do's and don'ts to watch out for.'
Most importantly, the prison consultant reportedly saved his life when he fell ill.
'When I got sick last year, I was freezing to death in my cell. For days, I couldn't move. There's no doctor here,' Weinstein shared. 'We're on Rikers Island — all these prisoners and no doctor. Finally, I called Craig Rothfeld and begged him, "Please help me. I'm sick. I don't know what to do." He got on the phone and they shipped me to Bellevue. I had a heart operation the next day. A day later and I would have been gone.'
Weinstein added that he has bone marrow cancer and believes he is 'dying' in prison. But if he had a choice, he did not want to spend his last days inside a cell.
'I don't want to die in here,' Weinstein added.
Craig Rothfeld, Harvey Weinstein's prison consultant, is the founder and owner of Inside Outside Ltd. His firm specializes in providing comprehensive support to individuals facing the daunting prospect of life behind bars.
Rothfeld has become a go-to figure for high-profile clients, including not only Weinstein but alsoLuigi Mangioneand others facing intense public scrutiny. According to the Inside Outside Ltd. website, the company offers a bridge between the 'outside' world and the rigid, often opaque structures of the 'inside' environment.
