A 35-year-old woman is facing an assault charge after allegedly punching another woman in downtown Guelph. Police say the victim was walking with a friend near Wyndham Street North and Macdonell Street shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday when she passed the suspect, who was heading in the opposite direction. The victim was punched once in the temple, knocking her to the ground, according to investigators. Officers located and arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Police say the two women were strangers. The accused was held for a bail hearing Friday.
