At least six people have died and five more were injured after a fire engulfed a bus inSwitzerland. Thehorror blazeerupted on Tuesday, at approximately 6.25pm local time, in the town of Kerzers, in the canton of Fribourg. The fire is understood to have quickly enfulged the bus and reduced it to just a shell.

Fribourg cantonal police said: “Several people were injured and several people died. Emergency services are currently responding. The causes are not yet known.” Following a press conference, during which the force confirmed the number of casualties, a police spokeswoman said to have received information a person had doused themselves with gasoline on a bus. She said: "However, we cannot confirm this."

Nine ambulances and a Rega helicopter were deployed to the scene.

Freiburg police spokespeople declined to comment on whether the person suspected of deliberately starting the fire was deceased or injured. "We are not releasing any information on that at this time," they stated in response to a question.

The Freiburg public prosecutor’s office is overseeing the case, while police are carrying out the on‑site investigation.

The Freiburg cantonal police said that three of the five injured people were rushed to the hospital in different vehicles. The other two provided treatment at the scene.

Swiss news agency Keystone-SDA reported that one person was airlifted away by helicopter.

According to the reports, the areas has been sealed off by the police as it warned residents to stay away.

The Freiburg police shared the details of the incident at a press conference. Four of the injured were passengers on the bus, while the fifth was a paramedic.
