SEATTLE — Seattle police arrested a suspect accused of slashing a man with a machete at Hing Hay Park in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District on Tuesday. Meaghan, a park steward who witnessed the attack, said she and others were near the park’s pagoda and packing up for the day when they heard yelling. “When we ran over to see what had happened, there was a man lying on the ground, and we watched someone come with a machete and overhead swing multiple times onto him,” Meaghan said. She called the attack “very, very alarming and traumatizing.” Seattle Fire Department crews treated an approximately 48-year-old man in stable condition after what was reported as an assault with a weapon. The man was taken to a hospital by AMR. The man told police that he was walking through the park when he turned around to find the suspect slashing at him with the machete. The victim was hit on his back, causing a large laceration, then fell to the ground, where the suspect continued to attack him, according to SPD. It was initially reported that two people had been injured, but Seattle Fire Department crews treated only one patient. Meaghan said her first thought was: “Oh my God, we need to call 911 immediately.” She said people began fleeing the area, and she tried to get them away from the scene. Witnesses told police that they saw the suspect, a 44-year-old man, in an argument with one of the victims before the attack, police said. Real Time Crime Center Cameras recorded some footage of the attack, which showed the suspect chasing after the 48-year-old victim with the machete, according to police. The 31-year-old victim then attempted to stop the attack by shoving the suspect, who then turned the machete on him, police said. As the 48-year-old victim attempted to run away, the suspect struck him in the back with the machete, causing
