HOW CANDACE OWENS BEAT THE MACRONS, HOW THEY BLEW IT AND WHAT HAPPENS NEXT
Candace Owens has scored a remarkable legal victory against French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte. And the implications could be enormous.
The Macrons retained Clare Locke, the powerhouse law firm that helped Dominion Voting Systems secure a staggering $787.5 million settlement from Fox News. They filed a massive defamation lawsuit against Candace, apparently expecting a formidable legal confrontation.
Instead, they encountered an unexpected constitutional roadblock.
Delaware Superior Court Judge Sheldon Rennie dismissed Candace Owens personally from the lawsuit because the plaintiffs failed to establish personal jurisdiction. Candace lives and broadcasts from Tennessee. Simply owning and managing Delaware corporations does not automatically subject her individually to Delaware courts.
That alone represents a substantial victory.
But the potentially devastating development involves the statute of limitations.
The judge ruled that French limitations law governs the remaining claims against Candace's companies. French law generally requires ordinary defamation lawsuits within three months, although a possible one-year exception remains unresolved.
Consider the irony. The Macrons selected an American courtroom only to discover that their own country's filing deadlines could ultimately destroy their remaining case.
And remember their extraordinary legal firepower. These are attorneys associated with one of America's most expensive defamation settlements. Yet even celebrated lawyers cannot overcome constitutional requirements through reputation or resources.
