NEW YORK — Civil rights leader Rev. Kevin McCall speaks outside One Police Plaza on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2026, after more than 20 clergy and community leaders met privately with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. McCall said Tisch told the group officers will now get five days of training every two years, partly on handling people in mental health crises, and that the NYPD does not work with ICE. He gave the commissioner a "B-plus" but said she still has to "get rid of those rogue cops in our community that continue to harass." McCall said he also pressed Tisch on NYPD officers who he says stood by "for three minutes" while a man collapsed at a Brownsville bus stop after a confrontation with MTA EAGLE officers, and on low-level stops for things like spitting and riding bikes on the sidewalk, which he warned could become "another form of stop, question, and frisk." Turning to retired NYPD detective Victor Romero, charged with manslaughter in the George Washington Bridge shooting death of Con Edison worker Koran Irvine, McCall said the case "sends a message that you can kill someone on a bridge and get away with it." "If it was a Black man that killed someone, right now that Black person would be under the jail," he said. McCall said he would join the afternoon rally calling for tougher charges.
"She never carried a gun, never walked the beat," he said, adding that she'd still earn a B-plus.
"We have a long road ahead regarding policing in this city."
"Did the NYPD scrub it from the Internet?" He said this about Romero's photo, and said Tisch referred him to the NYPD press office.
"He should not be out at all."
I took these quotes from the audio in your four clips. The Brownsville man's name was hard to hear, and it sounded like "Cal Taylor" or "Teller," so I left it out. Check it before you use it.
