New Delhi:External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday held a fresh conversation withIran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchito discuss the rapidly evolving conflict inWest Asia, as tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States continue to escalate. In a message posted on social media, Jaishankar said he had “a detailed conversation this evening” with Araghchi on the latest developments related to the ongoing conflict, adding that the two sides agreed to remain in touch as the situation unfolds.

The call comes as India intensifies diplomatic engagement with key regional stakeholders amid growing instability in the Middle East. New Delhi has repeatedly stressed the need for dialogue, restraint and de-escalation to prevent the crisis from spiralling further.

Earlier in the day, US warned that the conflict involving Iran and Israel is entering one of its most intense phases yet, with senior officials saying a major wave of strikes is underway. Speaking at a briefing, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the day would witness the largest scale of US attacks so far inside Iran.

“Today will be yet again our most intense day of strikes inside Iran, the most fighters, the most bombers, the most strikes,” Hegseth said, adding that US intelligence guiding the operations is now “more refined and better than ever.”

Despite the escalation in US military action, officials said Iranian retaliation appears to be weakening. According to Hegseth, the past 24 hours have seen Iran fire the lowest number of missiles it has been capable of launching since the conflict began.

The remarks came during a joint briefing with Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, who said American forces are continuing to expand their targets deeper into Iran’s military infrastructure. Caine said US operations are now focusing on defence installations and weapons development facilities, signalling a widening campaign aimed at degrading Iran’s military capabilities.
