Canadian authorities have launched an investigation after ashootingwas reported near the United States Consulate General Toronto early Tuesday morning. According to the Toronto Police Service, officers arrived at the scene shortly before 5:30 am local time (09:30 GMT) and began examining the area for evidence following reports that gunfire had been directed at the building.

Police later confirmed that investigators found evidence indicating a firearm had been discharged near the consulate. The update was shared by Toronto Police Operations in a post on X.

Authorities said no injuries have been reported and that no suspect has been identified so far. Several streets surrounding the consulate remain closed as officers continue to secure the area and gather evidence.

Reacting to the incident, Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario, strongly condemned the shooting.

“The shooting that took place at the U.S. consulate early this morning is an absolutely unacceptable act of violence and intimidation aimed at our American friends and neighbors,” Ford said in a statement.

Investigators are continuing to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Notably, a protest opposing the Iran war was also held in front of the US Consulate last weekend. Toronto police said, "We are investigating the suspect and motive." Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow stated that police presence has been increased at the US and Israeli consulates in the city.
