Abu Dhabi:The United Arab Emirates' (UAE's) ADNOC Ruwais Refinery was reported to have been attacked by Iran using drones. The refinery was shut as a precaution after the drone strikes. Notably, the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) Ruwais Refinery is one of the largest refineries of the world and has the capacity to process more than 900,000 barrels of oil per day.

Authorities in Abu Dhabi are responding to a fire that broke out at a facility in the Ruwais Industrial Complex. Efforts are currently underway to douse the blaze. No injuries have been reported so far. Several visuals of smoke billowing out of the oil facility also surfaced online.

It is not the first time that Iran attacked oil facilities in the Gulf countries after the United States and Israel attacked Iran on February 28. On Sunday, Iran also attacked Bahrain's largest oil facility,BAPCOrefinery.

Iran reportedly carried out the attack on the oil facility on the day when an assembly of clerics named Mojtaba Khamenei as the new Supreme Leader of the country. According to reports, Bahrain authorities confirmed damage to the oil facility.

These oil facilities were targeted by Iran after its Presient Masoud Pezeshkian had apologised to the neighbouring Gulf countries for carrying out attacks on them.He had said that neighbouring countries will no longer be targeted unless an attack on Iran is launched from their territory.

However, after reportedly facing criticism, Pezeshkian had issued a new statement on his country's position.

In his second statement, Pezeshkian said that Iran has the right to defend itself against US and Israeli military aggression, and it is targeting facilities that are the origin and source of aggressive actions against his nation.

The conflict started on February 28 after the United States and Israel carried out airstrikes on Iran, killing several of its top leaders , including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran then launched retaliatory strikes on Israel and US military bases and oil facilities in the Gulf nations, including Bahrain, the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
