October 24, 2026 SOUTH OZONE PARK, QUEENS, NEW YORK —
NYPD Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera briefed reporters on 149th Street after an officer shot a woman inside a home where police had responded to 911 calls about a home invasion and a stabbing on Friday night. Rivera said officers forced their way inside, found two men and a woman struggling in a third-floor bedroom, and that an officer fired after the woman moved toward them with a knife. He said she was in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital, that three men and the woman had stab wounds, and that the Force Investigation Division is reviewing the officers' body camera footage.
The video shows police vehicles and an NYPD crime scene unit truck on the road near the scene, officers and detectives behind police tape outside the house, and Rivera reading a statement at a lectern beside two NYPD commanders before taking a few questions.
