October 13, 2026 BRONX, NEW YORK — Detectives walked two men charged in the stabbing of an off-duty NYPD detective out of a Bronx precinct to a waiting jail transport vehicle, days after the pair were arrested in Massachusetts following a multi-day manhunt. Police accuse D'Angelo Caraballo, 25, of stabbing Detective Jose Mercedes, 33, a 10-year veteran assigned to the 44th Precinct, during an attempted daytime robbery in the Norwood section of the Bronx on October 2, and accuse Sneider Mejia, 24, of taking part. The Bronx District Attorney's office said the charges include attempted murder. Both men pleaded not guilty at their arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court on October 14 and were ordered held without bail, NY1 reported. The video shows detectives in suits escorting the suspects, in handcuffs, down the precinct steps and to a transport vehicle. The charges are accusations. Both men are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
