Indian cricket star Ishan Kishan lashed out at 1983 World Cup winner Kirti Azad's controversial remarks after being asked about them on his arrival to Patna after the national team won the 2026 T20 World Cup following a victory against New Zealand in the final on Sunday (March 8) at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium after a comprehensive victory by a huge margin of 96 runs.
After the victory, after the team left the stadium, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav and head coach Gautam Gambhir visited a temple with the trophy alongside International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Jay Shah. The trio visited the Motera Hanuman Temple, which is near the stadium.
However, Azad was not happy and questioned if players of other faiths would be allowed to do the same. The cricket-turned-politician's post on social media divided opinions on social media. For those unversed, the 1983 World Cup-winning Indian team squad member is a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Trinamool Congress.
Kishan was questioned about the comments and was left furious at the reporter. He called for better question to be asked.
"What are you asking? Sir, we have won such a good World Cup. What should I say about what Kiri Azad said. Ask something good. See this is a good question (after another reporter asked a question). You asked a useless question," said Kishan to X.
Kishanwas India's second-highest run-getter in the tournament with a tally of 317 runs in nine innings at an average of 35.22 with a strike rate of 193.29. He scored three half-centures in the tournament including a knock off 54 in 25 balls in the final.
