PROVO, Utah — A woman was arrested and two other people were cited after a confrontation with deputies at a Utah County Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night, where officials considered proposed zoning changes for data centers. Video shared by UT for the People — No Tech Billionaires appears to show a woman being taken to the ground and restrained by law enforcement outside the commission chambers following the meeting. The Utah County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened Oct. 20 after commissioners voted on a proposed land use ordinance related to data centers. The agency said several people became disruptive following the vote and commissioners asked that those individuals be removed. The group that provided the video disputes the circumstances leading to the woman's arrest, saying she was targeted by police despite not being vocal at the time of the confrontation. In a statement, the Utah County Sheriff's Office said deputies first asked a man to leave the meeting. He complied without incident and was not cited, according to the agency. Deputies then attempted to remove a woman who, according to the Sheriff's Office, refused to leave and began arguing with them. The agency said a deputy took hold of the woman to remove her from a row of chairs. The Sheriff's Office alleges the woman struck the deputy in the groin and that two other people grabbed the woman to prevent her removal. The three were taken out of the chambers and into the lobby, where deputies began separating those involved. During that process, the woman and a deputy went to the ground, according to the Sheriff's Office. The agency said the woman was placed in handcuffs after she stopped resisting.
