Salvatore Virgadaula of Riverhead died March 9, 2026. He was 88 years old.
Born May 22, 1937, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, he was the son of Giacomo and Angelina Virgadaula. He graduated from high school in Brooklyn in 1955 and served in the Army. He married Agnes Blasi in 1965. He worked as a bus driver for the New York City Transit Authority. He enjoyed traveling and stamp collecting and was an avid Giants and Yankees fan.
He was predeceased by his sister, Marie Grasso. He is survived by his wife Agnes; his children, Joann Pignataro (Anthony) and Salvatore Virgadaula (Nicole); his sister, Linda; and four grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday, March 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner funeral home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of McLaughlin Heppner funeral home in Riverhead.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
