A dense fog advisory is in effect for northeast and southeast Suffolk County through 11 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.

The advisory warns of visibility as low as one-quarter mile or less in dense fog, which could make driving conditions hazardous.

Forecasters said areas of low clouds and fog are expected to develop during the evening and overnight hours along coastal locations for the next couple of nights, as unseasonably mild air remains in place through Wednesday.

In Riverhead and surrounding areas, the National Weather Service forecast calls for patchy fog developing overnight, with patchy fog possible again Tuesday morning before skies turn mostly sunny. Patchy fog is also possible again Tuesday night.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights and leave plenty of distance between vehicles, the weather service said.
