Media personality, founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), former executive of the organisation, and husband ofErika Kirkwas fatally shot in the neck while speaking at an outdoor 'American Comeback Tour' event at Utah Valley University on 10 September 2025.
Charlie Kirk, 31, a conservative activist, was conducting his well-known 'prove me wrong' debate with students and was discussing gun violence when the incident occurred. The shooting was carried out by a gunman positioned on a nearby rooftop.
The alleged suspect in the horrific shooting, 22-year-old Tyler James Robinson, has been charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice.
Robinson reportedly wants cameras out of the courtroom for his upcoming trial, arguing it would ensure a 'fair trial'.
TheTMZreported that Robinson's lawyer does not want cameras in the courtroom during the 22-year-old's trial, arguing that it will ensure a 'fair trial' for Robinson. However, the prosecution said that if anything, closed-door hearings will just encourage more outlandish publicity.
According to the court document acquired by the outlet, the prosecutors are asking for cameras to be allowed in the courtroom, as secrecy only fuels conspiracy theories – something that is already surrounding the death of Kirk.
They said, 'keeping court proceedings as public as possible helps to quell and contradict the tide of misinformation'. The prosecutor added, 'a number of conspiracy theories' have already been circulated, including unfounded accusations that Israel is behind the death of Kirk.
Furthermore, the court documents show that prosecutors are worried about these conspiracy theories, noting that Tyler and his team are wrong to think all the publicity has been bad for his case.
As of now, there is no set trial date for Robinson.
Prior to his arrest, Robinsan allegedly confessed to the murder. Reports indicated that the 22-year-old admitted to his father that he shot and killed Kirk at the Utah Valley University campus.
