A U.S. citizen was hospitalized with serious injuries after federal immigration agents reportedly used a Taser on him during a violent detention in Long Beach on Saturday, sparking outrage among neighbors and local elected officials. The incident unfolded Saturday afternoon near Locust Avenue and Ellis Street in North Long Beach, where surveillance video captured several masked federal agents confronting a man identified as Ricardo Gonzalez as he rode an electric bicycle through the neighborhood. In the footage, an unmarked vehicle appears to block Gonzalez’s path before several agents, some wearing vests marked “ICE,” get out and approach him. Video of the confrontation shows Gonzalez being surrounded by agents before he is taken to the ground, handcuffed and detained as nearby residents shout at the officers. Witnesses said Gonzalez was tased during the encounter, though the circumstances leading up to the use of force remain unclear.
