CBSE Board Exam 2026 is once again in the headlines, but this time it is the Class 12 Math exam and for a very different reason. As per claims being made online, the QR code present on the first page of the Class 12 Math board exam question paper leads to a popular internet prank video titled 'Rickroll'. The news has flooded the microblogging site X with memes. One after another, students began sharing their experiences, with some questioning the authorities over a possible security breach. Refuting the online theories, CBSE has issued an official clarification asserting that the question paper is 'genuine and uncompromised.'
The press release states, "On 09.03.2026, examination of Mathematics was conducted for class 12. In a few question paper sets, it appears that when one of the given QR codes is scanned, it links to a YouTube video. It appears that this has raised concerns about the veracity of the question papers amongst concerned students and their parents."
"It is hereby confirmed by the Board that the question papers are genuine. The security of the question papers remains uncompromised," it added.
The board has further promised that the issue is being viewed seriously and necessary steps are being taken to ensure that such issues are not repeated in future.
Installing QR codes on paper sets is an authentication and anti-leak measure. Since each QR code is unique to the paper set, assisting in verifying if the paper is official, many students and parents were dreading a possible leak, as the code was redirecting them to a prank video instead of official instructions or relevant information.
Apart from this, QR helps in tracking, record-keeping, and preventing forgery.
A few hours back, the microblogging site X was filled with memes and complaints from students and parents who were constantly tagging the authorities, asking for a probe, as they believed that the paper was tampered with.
CBSE held the Class 12 Mathematics exam on March 9, 2026. Some rated the overall paper 'moderate', while others believed that a few sections made their set 'lengthy and difficult'. However, no out of syllabus questions were asked, and NCERT along with YouTube videos helped them a lot.
