India defeated New Zealand in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 to lift their record third title. They also became the first host nation to win the tournament, and also the first-ever team to defend their title in history. This was no doubt a huge win. After this monumental win, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has announced a massive prize money of Rs 131 crore to the players and the support staff. This is Rs 5 crore more than what the team earned as prize money after winning the T20 World Cup 2026.

Two days after the final, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia released a statement stating the prize money.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of INR 131 crore for Team India following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

India lifted the prestigious trophy after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, successfully defending the title and becoming the first team in the history of the tournament to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With this victory, India also became the first team to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup three times, further cementing their place among the most successful teams in the history of the format.

The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future.

India got off to a fantastic start in the final against New Zealand, scoring 92 runs in the powerplay, which was the joint-highest in the history of the T20 World Cup. After Abhishek got out, Sanju Samson continued the momentum alongside Ishan Kishan, as the duo stitched a 100-run stand for the second wicket.

Samson went on to score 89 runs, his third 80+ score of the tournament. Even Kishan slammed a half-century, scoring 54 from 25 balls. However, the Men in Blue had a mini collapse after that, losing four wickets in the span of three overs. Hoever, Shivam Dube stood tall, and smashed 24 runs in the final over, to power India to a score of 255/5.

The New Zealand batters never got going as the India bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Jasprit Bumrah was the star of the show as he delivered his career best figures of 4/15. They were bundled out for 159 as India won by 96 runs to lift the T20 World Cup 2026 trophy. Axar Patel also picked up three wickets.
