But when the pendulum swings too far in one direction, what happens when it swings back? In the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, legitimate anger at racial injustice increasingly became entangled with debates over defunding the police, racial quotas, corporate virtue signalling, white guilt and reparations. For many, the response to being told “you can’t say that” was to say precisely that — and then push even further. Now, a new wave of self-described 'edgelords' is testing the limits of the backlash. Among them is Andre Williams, who has recently attracted attention through appearances on conservative podcasts and a series of viral clips defending controversial positions, including the claim that “slavery was good for black people”. But does he genuinely believe what he says? Is he an example of the backlash against woke culture going too far, or is there something else at play? Piers Morgan is joined by controversial commentator and influencer Andre Williams, academic and host of BET News, Marc Lamont-Hill, and Brandon Tatum, aka The Officer Tatum, to discuss.
