A disabled veteran was arrested in Daytona Beach, Florida, over an alleged incident that occurred while he was thousands of miles away in Hawaii.
His name is Jonathan Lopez Torres.
Despite evidence that he was in Hawaii at the time of the alleged incident, Lopez was arrested and spent days behind bars before prosecutors ultimately declined to pursue the charges against him.
But the story didn't end there.
As part of my independent investigation, I contacted the Seventh Judicial Circuit State Attorney's Office seeking answers about what happened, why Lopez was arrested, and whether the woman who accused him would face any consequences.
The response revealed a significant development.
On February 6, 2026, prosecutors filed a criminal charge against Amanda Michelle Morales for allegedly making a false report to law enforcement.
In this report, I examine the timeline, the available documentation, my correspondence with prosecutors, and the questions that remain unanswered.
How did a man end up behind bars when he was thousands of miles away?
What happened after the allegations against him fell apart?
And will the woman now facing criminal charges be held accountable?
**IMPORTANT:** Amanda Morales has been charged, not convicted. The criminal proceedings remain pending.
This is an ongoing investigation. I intend to continue reporting on developments in the case, including the court proceedings scheduled for October 30, 2026.
