Nir Barkat, Israel’s Minister for Economy and Industry, has said that Mojtaba Khamenei, who has been named as Iran’s ‘Supreme Leader’ and is also the son of his predecessor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will not live for long. Barkat, in an exclusive interview with Group Editor in Chief of Times Now and Times Now Navbharat Navika Kumar, said, when specifically asked if Israel and the United States will do to Mojtaba Khamenei what it did to his father, which is to kill him in a targeted air strike, said: “The answer is yes. As long as they don't change their goals and plans to create destruction on the state of Israel, they are a target for our military and our intelligence. And I think he’s not going to live for long.”
In a series of co-ordinated strikes that began on February 28, Israel and the United States targeted the Iranian regime’s leadership, in which Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed, having served as ‘Supreme Leader’ in the country since 1989.
“We have [to deal with] a very aggressive Jihadi Nazi regime that we have to make sure they do not exist after this round of violence,” Barkat said. “And our goal is to make sure that the regime is powerless at the end of this war, not just for the sake of Israel, but for the sake of the whole free world and other non-Muslim countries around the world. And I know that India shares the same threat, the same concerns as we are.”
Barkat added: “We have a huge amount of intelligence and understanding of the Islamic regime, the Jihadists in the Islamic Republic, we know where they are. We knew where their leaders are, and we know how to go after them. But from here to tell you exactly when, we don't know.”
Barkat also said that the state of uncertainty and turbulence in the global markets, amid the rising prices of oil, will erode once the regime in Iran is “defeated.” He said: “I'm sure that the whole world will be able to overcome it. Long term, once we defeat them, I think we're all going to enjoy it, not just Israel, by not having our enemies in the region, but the whole world will become much freer and much, much better free trade than we are today.”
India and Israel have also been negotiating a Free Trade Agreement, and its terms of reference were agreed to in November last year when India’s Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal had met Barkat in Israel. Barkat said that he hopes the deal will be concluded by the end of this year. “I had the honour of speaking to Minister Piyush Goyal last week…We anticipate another mission from India coming to Israel in the next few months. We’re on track. We want to move fast and hopefully finish it by the end of the year.”
