Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, aka TVK Chief and actorThalapathy Vijay, has reportedly requested the CBI to give him a 15-day exemption from appearing for questioning in the zonal office in connection with the Karur stampede case. It has to be noted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had sent a summons to the actor-politician to appear for questioning on March 10. For the unversed, the stampede happened on September 27, 2025, during Vijay’s political rally in the Karur district of Tamil Nadu that claimed 41 lives and left more than 60 people injured. The case was first handled by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), but now it has been taken over by the CBI.
Coming back to Thalapathy Vijay’s request to the CBI, a source revealed that theJana Nayaganstar sought a 15-day exemption from the bureau. The further question will take place at CBI’s zonal office.
Vijay’s request is now being examined by the officials, and they are expected to issue a fresh summons soon. For the unversed, Karur’s MLA Senthil Balaji didn’t join the probe after being summoned by the CBI. More details about the same are still awaited.

Notably, the Varisu actor was earlier questioned by the agency in this matter on January 10 and January 19, 2026.
The stampede incident indeed left Vijay heartbroken. The TVK chief took to his X handle and expressed his grief over the death of 41 people. In Tamil, the actor wrote, “My heart is shattered; I am writing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital."
Apart from that, Vijay’s estranged wife, Sangeetha Sornalingam, has also filed a divorce case in Chengalpattu Family Court near Chennai. In the petition, she claimed that the actor is in a relationship with an actress. As per reports, he is dating Trisha Krishnan. Vijay and Sangeetha got married in 1999. They are proud parents of son Jason Sanjay and daughter Divya Seesha. His son has reportedly unfollowed him on social media.

On the professional front, Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has been halted by the CBFC over a certification issue. It was supposed to be released on January 9, 2026, in theatres.
