Chancellor I’Ashea Myles is presiding. Pike’s attorneys want drugs, syringes, IV lines, surveillance footage, execution records and communications about stopping the execution and calling for medical help preserved. They are also seeking access to Pike to independently document her medical condition. The state argues an additional preservation order is unnecessary because corrections officials already have an obligation to retain evidence. Today’s dispute concerns whether the court should impose that order. Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution. Her attorneys now say she is conscious and speaking in a hospital, although her prognosis remains unclear. State officials have not confirmed her condition. Gov. Bill Lee paused the remaining 2026 executions and ordered an independent review. Pike was sentenced to death for the 1995 murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer in Knoxville, Tennessee.
